Process Paper
We chose the topic
of Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev: Leading the world out of the cold war.
We chose this topic because it was a one we had never covered before. We hadn’t
heard about the cold war very much and wanted to deepen our knowledge about it.
In turn, after doing research about anything related to it, we found lots of
information. We learned that President Reagan and Mr. Gorbachev had completely
different personalities. Even so, they
were still able to get the job done and make a difference in the world. They
showed true leadership and left legacies of how to cooperate, even though they
had contradicting beliefs on how things should be done.
When we conducted our research, we made sure to take charge of it. We searched high and low for ways the two presidents made a difference in society. We went online and viewed different websites. In our case, the websites were the most helpful. We also looked at pictures and listened to President Reagan’s “Tear down this wall” speech. One of the websites we used was pbs.org. It taught us about the two men and how they defeated the uprising turmoil and tension between the Soviet Union and the US. Each week we learned something new. It was fascinating learn how the world is as we know it because of the actions of President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
Working together, Samantha and I created a website as our presentation. We believed it the most manageable way to present our project. With a lot of the world tech-savvy nowadays, it would only make sense to make a website. Technology is used for pretty much anything from conducting research to entertainment. In fact, its websites are what we mainly used to obtain information. With our project online, more people will be able to access it to learn about the cold war history and the two leaders that successfully ended it. Each week we sat down and put our time and effort into making it perfected according to the guidelines we were given. We added pictures, links and summaries all relevant to our topic.
Our project relates to the theme of Leadership and Legacy. It does so because both Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev were presidents in their respective countries Reagan: USA, Gorbachev: USSR). They also left a legacy of how to work together to get a job done for the better of humanity. This wasn’t the only thing they left though. They showed that two opposite leaders can become friends, even though they have their own duties and countries to take care of. Mikhail Gorbachev is still alive today, but sadly former US president Regan has passed away.
